1997- July 1997 in the Sydenham-Hillside primary school staff room four men began to ponder what the local youth might have to offer the great game of cricket. Ken Griffiths, Phil Rigg, Gary Walsh and Andrew Harrison laid foundation to what we now know as the Sydenham-Hillside Cricket Club. In October that year four junior teams took to the field. Home games were played at Overton Lee BLVD. And refreshments were served in Phils garage. 1999-2000 season saw the introduction of senior cricket. Two teams competed with instant success. The first XI won the premiership and the club was starting to take shape. There were no clubrooms at Hillside Reserve. Teams were selected at the newly built Sugar Gum Hotel and afternoon tea was served out of the back of Garys truck. It was then on to Phils garage for the refreshments. the foundation of the Sydenham-Hillside Football Club. Late 2000 saw the opening of the new clubrooms and both junior and senior involvement was starting to expand. The club began to use Copperfield College to accomodate its ongoing growth. October 2007 saw the completion of a clubroom extension, which has made the facility the showpiece of the competition. The club now boasts five senior, eight junior teams and a Milo program with over 50 participants. A strong and dedicated committee striving to provide a safe, supportive and fun environment for all members. Its just over ten years and 370 people have been fortunate enough to play for the Sydenham-Hillside Cricket Club. It continues to provide a vital service to the community and one that we are all very proud of.
